A motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of computational biology is sought for a position in the Division of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBBI) in the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute. The focus of research is to develop and apply bioinformatics algorithms perform integrative genomic data analysis, including RNA-seq, whole exome capture, mutation calling, and many other NGS data analyses.
- Postdocs will contribute to the development of new analytical methods and/or the application of machine learning methods to large collection of genomics data, specifically a collection of prostate cancer data with our collaborating partner institute, and to extract testable biological hypotheses from these large collections;
- Postdocs will contribute to the lab's culture of open scientific discovery and to share methodological advances and biological discoveries at both national and international venues; and
- Research projects center around new computational methods to integrate genomic data as well as to incorporate additional phenotypic information with these genomic data to transfer to pediatric cancer research.

GCCRI is a unique and specialized cancer research with the mission of advancing scientific knowledge relevant to childhood cancer and accelerating the translation of knowledge into novel therapies. The successful candidate is expected to have an MD, PhD, or equivalent, with a strong background in bioinformatics, machine learning, statistics, genomics, or closely related field and programming experience. The candidate is also expected to have a track record of scientific productivity and leadership and will strive for robust and reproducible analytical workflows. The experience handling large datasets in a UNIX/LINUX environment, experience with high performance cluster or cloud computing, and a knowledge of existing software packages used for machine learning are highly desired.
