Position Description:

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to fill a post-doctoral position working in the field of cellular immunology in Dr. Elizabeth Leadbetter’s laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The Leadbetter laboratory applies cutting edge confocal imaging technology and sophisticated in vivo animal models to address clinically relevant immunological questions in human and mouse systems. These include: 1) investigating iNKT cell help for B cell humoral memory in response to model glycolipid antigens, pathogen-derived antigens, and infection with complex pathogens, 2) contribution of endogenous iNKT cells and B cells to chronic inflammation of human and mouse adipose tissue during obesity, 3) development of a glycolipid adjuvant-containing nanoparticle vaccine to harness iNKT cells for anti-tumor immunity or defense against infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae.

UTHSCSA is a highly integrated and translational research community, which also includes the Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC), a NCI Designated Cancer Center, the Institute for Integration of Medicine and Science (IIMS) funded by a NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), the South Texas Research Facility (STRF), the Texas Biomedical Research Institute (TBRI), the Greehey Children Cancer Research Center Institute (GCCRI), the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies, in addition to multiple hospitals, including the University Hospital and the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S. with a beautiful historical downtown area.
