The SABER program is a postdoctoral Teaching & Research training program, sponsored by an IRACDA (Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award) from the NIGMS of NIH to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and its partner institutions, St. Mary’s University, Our Lady of the Lake University and Trinity University.
The overarching goal of the training program is to prepare a diverse and accomplished pool of research-teacher-scholars sensitive to the needs of underrepresented groups and able to serve as role models for students at the undergraduate level.
Trainees will:
- Receive research mentoring from established training faculty
- Develop writing, presentation and grantsmanship skills
- Acquire professional networks of peers and research experts
- Develop a viable research program at an undergraduate institution
- Receive mentored teacher training
- Teach in courses such as biology, biochemistry, genetics, pharmacology, physiology, anatomy, histology, molecular biology, immunology, psychology, and chemistry
