Mengjin Don, PhD awarded 2-year grant

Congratulations to Dr. Mengjin Dong who was recently awarded a 2-year grant ($220,000) by the Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium (TARCC) for her proposed research titled Longitudinal brain aging patterns analysis with cerebral small vessel disease.

Dr. Dong, who works with Dr. Mohamad Habes (Director of the Biggs Institute Neuroimaging Core and Associate Professor of Radiology) is also the current Vice President of the UT San Antonio Health Science Center Postdoctoral Association (UP).

Thangarajeswari Mohan, PhD placed 1st in poster competition at LSoM Research Symposium

Congratulations to Dr. Thangarajeswari Mohan who placed 1st in the poster competition (postdoctoral research fellow category) at the recent annual Long School of Medicine 2026 Research Symposium held on April 1st. Dr. Mohan’s winning poster was titled Aging amplifies oncogenic PIK3CA H1047R signaling and accelerates mammary tumorigenesis.

Dr. Mohan works with Dr. LuZhe Sun (Professor of Cell Systems & Anatomy, Dielmann Chair in Oncology and Associate Director for Basic Research, Mays Cancer Center).

Thangarajeswari Mohan, PhD selected for platform presentation at Annual AACR Meeting

Congratulations to Dr. Mohan whose proffered abstract “Aging amplifies oncogenic mutant PIK3CA H1047R signaling and accelerates mammary tumorigenesis,” was selected for a platform presentation at the upcoming American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2026, which will be held April 17–22, 2026, at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA. In addition, Dr. Mohan received a prestigious AACR–Lillian L. Siu Scholar in Training Award rio attend and participate in the meeting.

Congratulations to Dr. Alison Luckey! She was recently awarded a 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant Award ($200,000) by the Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium (TARCC) for a project titled ""Multi-Biomarker Strategy to Improve Risk Stratification in ADRD Clinical Trials.”

Dr. Luckey is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the lab of Dr. Claudia Satizabal (Biggs Institute & Population Health Sciences). She is currently supported by the NCATS-funded CTSA Postdoctoral T32 training grant.
