Biochemistry of Antiviral Immunity

Posted Date:

Position Description

Research positions at all levels (Research Assistant, Research Associate, Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Scientist) are currently open in the Ivanov lab at UT Health San Antonio (https://ivanov-laboratory.org) to work on the biochemical and structural basis of innate antiviral immunity. We are seeking motivated and curious individuals to investigate how proteins of the immune system impair the ability of viruses to replicate in the cells of our body. We are also interested in the evasion strategies that human pathogens employ to circumvent these immune defenses. Here are some examples of our recent work on SAMHD1 and TRIM5, restriction factors that block replication of HIV and related primate retroviruses: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9675739/; https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7854603/; https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.11.14.567083v1

Position Requirements

Expertise in all aspects of biochemistry, molecular biology, enzymology, protein chemistry, biophysics and structural biology will add strength to the application.

How to Apply

Applications should be sent directly to Dr. Dmitri Ivanov (ivanov@uthscsa.edu) and include a short description of your research credentials, current CV, and the contact information for two (2) references. The positions are funded by the NIH, Welch Foundation and CPRIT grants.
