Post doctoral fellow - MOVER laboratory

Posted Date:

Position Description

The Motor Neuromuscular Rehabilitation Lab at UT San Antonio Health Science Center is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in physical therapy/cancer rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation for a one-year position to advance rehabilitation research across cancer and Parkinson’s disease (PD). The goal of our research program is to develop and evaluate behavioral interventions to improve mobility and quality of life in people with breast cancer, osteoarthritis, and Parkinson’s disease (PD). The candidate will contribute to a Komen Foundation-funded randomized clinical trial that compares yoga with physical therapy in breast cancer survivors designed to improve quality of life. This study integrates quantitative (RAND-36, PROMIS, 6-minute walk testing, grip and shoulder strength, functional mobility, wearable data) and qualitative assessments. The candidate will also contribute to the lab’s ongoing exercise-based PD studies. The postdoctoral fellow will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Gustavo Almeida, faculty, and in close collaboration with Dr. Anjali Sivaramakrishnan. The Mover Lab is positioned at the intersection of exercise-based rehabilitation, behavioral science, neurophysiology, and whole-person recovery. Working under the mentorship of the study investigators, the fellow will assume progressively independent responsibility for the scientific conduct of the trial, while receiving training in rehabilitation-based clinical trials, behavioral interventions, mixed-methods research, and development of an independent research program. The candidate will work closely with an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapists, oncologists, orthopedic specialists, movement disorder specialists, and biostatisticians. The tentative start date would be January 2027.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in Rehabilitation Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Neuroscience, Public Health, Behavioral Science, or Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, completed by start date.
  • Experience with human-subjects research, IRB procedures, and clinical or behavioral intervention trials; experience in randomized trials is strongly preferred.

Preferred:

  • Experience with delivering exercise interventions.
  • Experience with wearable-derived activity/physiological data, qualitative interviewing, or thematic analysis.
  • Experience in assessing behavioral outcomes related to balance, strength, functional mobility, etc.
  • Strong scientific writing and collaborative teamwork skills.
  • Ability to communicate research findings through oral presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A track record of journal publications in rehabilitation.
