Position Description

Klykov lab in the Department of Biochemistry & Structural Biology at UT Health San Antonio is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to conduct basic and translational studies with a focus on membrane proteins on synaptic transmission. Available projects utilize structural proteomics approaches combined with cryo-EM and in-situ cryo-imaging (cryo-ET and cryo-FIB/SEM volumeEM), and are supplemented with method development components. Several collaborative projects include structural characterization of mitochondrial membrane proteins, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder as well as fundamental structural research on synaptic transmission. Experience in one (or more) of the following fields is a plus, but not required: neuroscience, animal handling, molecular biology, mass spectrometry, cryo-EM/ET, and/or image processing techniques.

The cryo-EM facility at UT Health San Antonio hosts a screening setup (200kV Glacios TEM, with a Falcon 4 direct electron detector, and Selectris Imaging Filter), along with all standard instrumentation for cryo-EM sample preparation. The lab is additionally equipped with cryo-FLM (CLEM) setups. Mass spectrometry facility hosts five instruments including Orbitrap Exploris 480 and Orbitrap Fusion Lumos. San Antonio is the seventh-largest city in the U.S., with a historical downtown, a vibrant economy, affordable housing, and numerous recreational opportunities.

The postdoctoral position is fully funded for 3 years with a potential extension of up to 5 years. This position provides an attractive salary (above the national average) and generous benefits.

Position Requirements

PhD degree in Neuroscience, Biophysics, Structural Biology or related fields
