Postdoctoral position at Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases

Posted Date:

Position Description

The Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases (Biggs Institute) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) invites applications for a postdoctoral position focused on investigating the genetic underpinnings of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and its vascular contributions. Recognized as the nation's 33rd and sole NIA-designated Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in Texas, the Biggs Institute provides a dynamic research environment.

The successful candidate will conduct research utilizing multiomics data (including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, etc.) from renowned studies such as the Framingham Heart Study (FHS), UK Biobank, and other cohorts participating in the NHLBI’s Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Muralidharan Sargurupremraj and Dr. Sudha Seshadri, the selected individual will:

- Utilize advanced bioinformatic techniques to analyze multi-omics data and explore omics-informed drug-repurposing strategies.

- Investigate causal relationships between AD and related risk factors.

- Collaborate with method developers to explore interactions between environmental and genetic factors using state-of-the-art tools.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in AD genetics and neurodegenerative diseases while benefiting from a supportive and collaborative research environment at the forefront of Alzheimer’s research.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess previous expertise in at least one of the following areas: statistical genetics, mathematics, biostatistics, or computational biology. While prior experience in Alzheimer’s disease research is not mandatory, candidates should hold or anticipate receiving a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a quantitative field.

The selected candidate will join a highly productive team of senior and junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students to identify her or his own core areas of interest, lead publications, work with a multi-dimensional team, submit and win training grants and be ready to transition to faculty positions, typically in 2-3 years.

Salary is commensurate with research experience and accomplishments as per the NIH pay scale. Additional information regarding our laboratory and scientific interests are at https://biggsinstitute.org/team-member/muralidharan-sargurupremraj-phd/
