Position Description
The Vu Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at The University of Texas at San Antonio Academic campus, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Pulmonary Immunology.
Our laboratory investigates how early-life respiratory infections and maternal/environmental exposures program long-term pulmonary immunity and susceptibility to asthma. Current projects focus on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), developmental immunology, and the epigenetic and metabolic mechanisms that establish persistent immune phenotypes.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop independent research directions while working with mouse models of respiratory infection and allergic airway disease, primary immune cells, flow cytometry, molecular and cellular immunology, metabolic/epigenetic approaches, and translational human samples.
Our mentoring philosophy is to treat postdoctoral fellows as scientific collaborators and actively support their development toward research independence, publications, fellowship/grant applications, and future academic or scientific careers.
Position Requirements
- PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, microbiology, molecular/cell biology, respiratory biology, or a related biomedical discipline.
- Strong interest in pulmonary immunology, respiratory infection, developmental immunology, or asthma.
- Experience with immunological and molecular biology techniques is preferred.
- Experience with flow cytometry, mouse models, cell culture, or molecular/biochemical assays is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous research and communicate scientific findings.
- Strong motivation, reliability, collaborative skills, and interest in developing an independent research program.
- Candidates with backgrounds in areas complementary to the laboratory's current expertise are also encouraged to apply.
