Position Description
Where: Laboratory of Mengwei Zang, MD, PhD.
Dr. Mengwei Zang is an internationally recognized investigator in cell metabolism, metabolic liver disease, and aging-related liver disease. She is Professor of Molecular Medicine at UT San Antonio Health Science Center and serves as Associate Director of the NIH-funded MSTP (MD/PhD) Program. The Zang Laboratory is located within the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies and the Department of Molecular Medicine, South Texas Research Facility (STRF) at UT San Antonio Health Science Center.
Nature of Work: Two Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions are available in the areas of cell metabolism, alcohol-associated liver disease, and aging.
The Zang Laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms regulating hepatocellular metabolism, with a particular focus on nutrient sensing, transcriptional regulation, alternative RNA splicing, and cellular senescence, and their roles in metabolic liver diseases associated with alcohol consumption, diabetes, and aging. The laboratory also identifies novel therapeutic targets and mechanisms for these liver diseases. The laboratory's research has been published in leading journals, such as Cell Metabolism, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Diabetes, and Aging Cell. The Zang Laboratory has established genetically modified mouse models, experimental models of human metabolic and alcohol-associated liver diseases, lipidomics, transcriptomics, and molecular and cellular approaches. The ideal candidates will be highly motivated, creative, and committed to scientific discovery, with strong training in molecular and cell biology, metabolism, and/or animal models. Experience with mouse models, omics approaches, or molecular mechanisms of aging and metabolic liver disease is highly desirable.
